Citronella essential oil was traditionally used to prevent food spoilage. The citronella plant belongs to the same family as lemongrass and palmarosa grasses. The oil is steam distilled from aerial parts and leaves. Citronella is used extensively throughout the world in soaps, candles, perfumes, and flavoring. The most popular use of the essential oil is in insect repellents.

Common Uses:
Used in air sprays and body rubs as an insect repellent; added to an I scented shampoo to help repel and mitigate the presence of head lice; used in deodorant blends for excessive perspiration; increase energy and quickens the function of glands; stimulate and clear mind of depressing thoughts
Aromatic Influence:
The scent is clean, powerful and lemony. Its citrusy and fruity aroma is very calming.
Blends Well With:
Bergamot, geranium, lavender, lemon, pine
Application:
Photosensitivity: None
Dilute 50-50
- 1 part essential oil with 1 part of carrier oil. For age 0-1, use 1 drop of essential oil to 8-10 drop of carrier oil. For age 2-6, use 1 drop of essential oil to 2-4 drops of carrier oil. For age 7 and above, use 1 drop of essential oil to 1 drop of carrier oil.
Apply to chakras and/or Vita Flex points
Inhale directly or diffuse
Caution:
May cause skin irritation
Repeated use can result in extreme contact sensitization.
Do not use during pregnancy.
Inhaling citronella can increase the heart rate.
