Patchouli oil is widely used in perfumery to provide a sensuous, earthy base note. For centuries, the Asian people used patchouli to fight infection, cool fevers, tone the skin (and entire body), and as an antidote for insect and snake bites. It was also used to treat colds, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. It is sedating, calming, and relaxing, allowing it to reduce anxiety.The essential oil is produced from the plant’s young dried leaves through steam distillation.

Patchouli oil regenerates skin cells and may ward off wrinkles. It also tightens and tones sagging skin. Patchouli oil speeds the healing of sores and wounds and helps to fade scars. It cools and calms inflamed skin and sunburn; soothes and smoothes rough, dry, and cracked skin. At the same time, it regulates oiliness of skin and hair and helps control acne and scalp disorders such as dandruff and seborrhea. Patchouli helps to combat cellulite by reducing fluid retention and tightening saggy skin. It acts as a deodorant and helps control perspiration.
The scent is pungent and powerful, mossy and musky, earthy and exotic, sweet-smelling. Its earthy aroma is reputed to balance emotions if you can tolerate the smell.
Blends Well With:
Bergamot, clary sage, geranium, lavender, myrrh, and allspice
Dilution Ratio: Neat
- For age 0-1, use 1 drop of essential oil to 8-10 drop of carrier oil. For age 2-6, use 1 drop of essential oil to 2-4 drops of carrier oil. For age 7-11, use 1 drop of essential oil to 1 drop of carrier oil. And age 12 and above, neat application is safe
Apply 2-4 drops on area of concern
Apply to chakras and/or Vita Flex Points
Inhale directly or diffuse
Inhaling too much patchouli oil may cause loss of appetite
Important not to ingest the oil, negative interactions may occur, especially if on certain medications for blood and blood-clotting disorders
