Ingredients
- 15 g beeswax
- 10 g shea butter
- 25 mL jojoba oil (or coconut oil)
- 10 drops spearmint essential oil (or your choice of carrier oils)
- 5 5.5g lip balm tubes
Instructions
- Melt beeswax, shea butter in a double boiler or small glass bowl over a small pot of boiling water, stirring constantly until melted.
- Add the jojoba oil and stir until everything is liquid.
- Remove pan from heat but keep over the still-hot water to keep the mixture melted.
- Pour the oil and wax mixture into the small glass jug and stir in spearmint essential oil for this recipe or choice of your essential oil.
- Let the mixture cool slightly (but not too much or it will set in the jug) before pouring a small amount to each tube. Leave to cool slightly, then top up.
- Let tubes sit at room temperature for several hours until cooled and completely hardened before capping them.
Notes
It is easier to make a batch of 5 than to weigh ingredients for just 1 since the amounts are small. But if you do want to just make 1, simply divide the ingredients by 5 and melt in a small shot glass in a bowel of hot water instead of using a double boiler.
When filling the tubes, it is important to place them in a tray of ice-cold water and to fill them just a quarter full at first to form a plug in the base. If the mixture does not cool fast, it will leak out of the bottom of the tubes. If the mixture sets before you have filled all of the tubes, just stand the jug in a pan of boiling water to re-melt, then carry on pouring.
